September 18, 2015
Fontaine and Tom were married on September 6th 2015. They celebrated over Labor Day Weekend and loved showing their friends and family the island that means so much to them. They had a welcome party the night before at Fontaine’s Parent’s home near Cisco and we loved photographing all the festivities.
Fontaine and Tom are so much fun to be around and radiate love and good energy. They also share a love of adventure, and though Fontaine had traveled a lot she told Tom when they got to know each other that she’d never been camping. This was one of their first trips together as they got to know each other…..“Tom and I met when we were neighbors in San Francisco. We actually had been neighbors for a little over a year before we ever met (we lived in a triplex, he lived on the top floor, and I was on the first floor). One night, my roommate and I came home at the same time as Tom and his roommate. Having never met them, we invited them in for some food. For some reason, Tom’s roommate insisted on cooking up some bacon, which ended up creating a lot of smoke and setting off the fire alarm and the fire department had to come. Tom was really embarrassed by all of it and invited me out for coffee and pie at a small bakery down the street from us the next day. We ended up spending hours talking about all of our travel adventures. During the conversation, I mentioned that I’d never been camping and made him promise to take me. A few months later he did. We had so much fun and it felt so natural, that it was then that I realized I wanted to spend my life going on adventures with him. And that’s pretty much what has happened ever since. “
Fontaine and I had been in touch for well over a year as she was planning their wedding and when I met with them at her family home in Cisco we spent a lot of time talking about how much we love Nantucket too! This has been a very special place to them and it was the perfect place for their Wedding and they loved sharing such a special place with all of their guests. Here’s more from Fontaine about their connection to Nantucket…
“I spent a large portion of my life on Nantucket. My parents were married on the island in the 80’s in the same house we still live in. Although I didn’t go to school out here as a kid, it is where I grew up. We spent every weekend, summer, and holiday on the island and it is where I have the majority of my childhood memories. It was on the island where I learned to ride a bike, drive a car, made many great friends, learned to surf, and discovered my love of drawing and painting. When Tom and I became more serious in our relationship, I knew I had to bring Him to nantucket, since the island is such a big part of who I am. He first came out after our first year of dating for Thanksgiving and he immediately fell in love. We now try to come out to the island at least 3-4 times a year. We have traveled to over 20 countries between the two of us and countless cities around the world, but Nantucket is still our favorite place. When we started to plan our wedding, we knew that Nantucket was the only place we wanted the wedding to happen.”
I loved hearing more about how they chose their venues! Brant Point Lighthouse is such an iconic and lovely part of the island. When she told me they’d be having a ceremony there for 100 guests I was thrilled. It was so fun to photograph the beach wedding under blue skies with all the beautiful boats passing by. As they began the ceremony Rhoda Habedank played acoustic guitar and sang some of their favorite songs. The setting was gorgeous and everything they wanted.
“When it was time to choose the venues, we wanted to find places that captured the beauty of the island. All of our friends https://tramadult.com have heard us talk about Nantucket over the years, but many of them have never been able to come out to the island. Both being surfers and ocean lovers, we knew we wanted the ceremony to be outside and on the water. Tom’s dad was in the Coast Guard, so having the ceremony at Brant Point right on the harbor was the perfect place. We originally wanted to have the reception at my parents house where they also had their wedding, but with such a large guest list, there was no way that we were going to be able to pull that off. Our wedding planner suggested that we take a look at the Dreamland Theater. When we walked in we knew it was going to be perfect, the balcony that looked out over the water offered breathtaking views to our guests. For us it was absolutely perfect. As for the caterer, photographer, flowers, and DJ, I wanted to make sure that I was working with locals who knew the island and loved it as much as we do. I couldn’t have been happier with the team that we had behind making our wedding absolutely perfect.”
I asked the couple about an extra memorable or special part of the day….“Having Joe, Tom’s cousin, marry us was very special. It added an extra personal touch that we knew we wouldn’t get with any other officiant. When Joe surprised us in the middle of the ceremony by having all of our loved ones place their hand on our shoulders, we both felt an immense of love and support in a way that we never had before. It was very touching. We have lived in many cities, and thus have a lot of friends from different places that have never met before, so we knew that there would be a lot of mixing of people at our wedding. I remember one moment when I looked around the room during the reception and noticed that no one was sitting at their table. Instead, everyone was up talking to one another, dancing, and having a lot of fun and it made my heart swell with happiness. After the wedding, a bunch of our friends contacted us saying that that they came as strangers, but left as friends. I don’t think that happens a lot at weddings, so it was really special to hear. To have all of our favorite people come together in one room and meet each other meant the world to us.”
Fontaine and Tom are the kind of people you meet and you feel as though you’ve known them forever. Their positive and fun outlook on life and their commitment to each other and their love adventure will surely take them to amazing places. I feel so honored to have been part of their special day!
