October 21, 2015
Katie and Andrew were married on October 10th 2015 under blue skies and sunshine! They had a gorgeous fall day for their wedding and we were so happy to capture their special day! They were married at Andrew’s Grandfather’s home in Squam on the beach. This property holds special meaning to the family as many of the grandchildren have had part of their wedding there. We had actually photographed Andrew’s cousin’s wedding a few years ago and they had their reception at the property, we love it! It was great to see so many familiar faces and also to meet Katie’s side of the family and all of their friends.
Katie and Andrew are so much fun to be around. You can tell instantly that their relationship has a meaningful history which all started with friendship. I love their Nantucket Story….“Andrew and I met on Nantucket as children playing in the sand. He was always the cooler older guy. Our families have been friends for generations. Our grandparents used to play and win golf and tennis tournaments together, so it was inevitable that we would become friends. After about 11 years of being best friends something changed. Andrew came to visit me as I studied abroad and Australia, and from then on we knew we were meant to be together.”
Nantucket truly holds a special place in their hearts. When we met to talk more about their wedding we realized how many mutual friends we have. I loved hearing the speeches and hearing about their childhood on Nantucket and their longstanding friendship between families. It seemed absolutely perfect for them to have their wedding here where it all began….“Our whole story begins with this amazingly beautiful island. It’s so special that we both have our families here and share special friendships that all started here. I have always dreamed about getting married on the beaches of Nantucket, but to be able to be Married at my new grandfathers house on the beach, a place that means so much to both Andrew and I, is something I could have only dreamed about! We’re so lucky to have been able to make our dreams come true together.”
The day of their wedding it was absolutely gorgeous. There was a fall breeze in the air, but blue skies and sunshine kept everyone warm for their ceremony on the beach. We had so much fun working with our new friends from 21 Summit Productions who were making the wedding film. As we all arrived at the beach front there was amazing energy in the air and when Katie walked up over the dunes it was a truly magical moment….“The whole day was amazing. Since we did not do a first look, when Andrew first saw me walk down the isle with my father was a special moment. All 200 people on the beach disappeared and it was just the two of us. I expected to be so nervous and emotional, but I felt surprisingly calm and comfortable. We also really enjoyed the drive from the house on squam road to Brant Point Lighthouse in the toppers car. I’ve always wanted to ride in it, so it was another really cool part of the day.”
I’d have to agree with them that the drive from Squam to Brant Point Lighthouse was a great part of the day. I loved photographing them in their first moments as newlyweds. We had a great time at sunset down at the Lighthouse and this was certainly one of the most fun and outgoing bridal parties we’ve ever met! They kept us laughing the entire night. The speeches were wonderful and the dancing was incredible too. At the very end of the night everyone gathered with sparklers for the couple’s grand exit. We are so happy for Katie and Andrew and look forward to seeing them around Nantucket soon!
Thank you Cary Tozer for shooting this wedding with me! This was his last wedding with us before leaving to travel this winter. Thanks for all of your hard work and talent!
