“As I reflect on how the whole day and night transpired, I believe it really brought out who we are and why we are now getting married. Together, Jenna and I have turned many “rainy days” into “bright blue skies” over our 10 years together, and this was just another example of our ability to make a rainy day special together!” – Brandon
Brandon got in touch with me about photographing their surprise proposal on Nantucket and I was all in! He told me how they had arranged for his family to fly in as a surprise and how Jenna’s Mom had worked closely with Maureen Maher of The Galley and Nantucket Island Events to make sure they had a very special evening! The all had dinner at The Galley with special flowers and the works! True to Nantucket style Mother nature had her own plans with the forecast but it only made for an even more unique proposal as they were under umbrella’s and surrounded by raindrops and pretty Grey Lady light.
Photographing Brandon and Jenna was so much fun they have a great history together and I loved hearing more about their story….”Brandon and I met our first year at Stonehill College. It sounds really clichè, but I remember after only 2-3 months of dating that he was the one for me, the person I wanted to be with forever. Over the next 10 (ish) years, there would be good and bad, but I’ve always felt a strong connection to him. He makes me feel home.” – Jenna
Brandon had such a great attitude the day of the proposal despite crazy thunder and rain during the day…later he told me……”Honestly, the night was so special and I will never forget it. Although weather conditions were not ideal, it only added to the uniqueness of the night and it being unforgettable.” We are always in touch with the ‘proposer’ throughout the day to check in and see how we can help! I decided to enlist some of my white umbrella’s which I put at the front desk at The Galley for the couple just in case they decided they needed coverage for a ‘beach walk’ and it ended up being perfect. I also had the best team lined up as shooting a proposal in the rain can be a bit of a challenge, it was a little harder to ‘blend in’ on the beach as no one was there since it was raining!
I had my good friend Kit Noble join me to second shoot this and although we have been friends for years and are both full time photographers, this was our first time working together! It was so much fun and I have to thank he and my fiancé, Evan, for braving the rain and spending time out on the beach as Evan and I pretended to be in a photo session with Kit. When we saw Brandon and Jenna walk out from The Galley it was very exciting as we knew he was about to ask the big question! Here is more from the special night and and a few more photos from a quick extra session a few days later at Brant Point Lighthouse! We couldn’t bee happier for you two!
Enjoy! – Katie K.
“I was SO surprised! I literally had no idea that it was happening until we started walking out into the rain. Nantucket is my favorite place, and the weather is always unpredictable, it only makes sense that The Grey Lady was present, but we were lucky enough to end the night with a famous Galley sunset. I wouldn’t change a thing about that night, the rain was what made our engagement so special. We were the only people on the beach, which made it a private moment for us while allowing our families to share the moment and watch it all happen…with dirty martinis!” – Jenna
“My favorite moment was hearing Brandon ask me to marry him and telling me that both our families were there. Glancing up in their direction and hearing their cheers for us made me the happiest I’ve ever been.” – Jenna
