“It was our purpose to get married on Monday the 24th of September because of the full moon. We had our wedding on Sconset Beach. As we were heading into the weekend beforehand we realized the weather might not work out but we were determined. It didn’t rain like it was supposed to but it was extremely windy. It was even more windy and cold next to the ocean. It was such a blur of excitement seeing our family and friends waiting for us on the beach with the wind blowing. When we started saying our vows all we saw was each other. The crowd of people disappeared. It felt like we were the only two people there. Like magic. It was very romantic and emotional. We could feel the last of the sun peaking through the clouds on our skin while we were shivering to warm up if only just a little. It really felt like it was shining just for us. After the ceremony we waited for the moon to hopefully rise through the clouds. We were swept up into the wind, running around hugging everyone. I think everyone gave up on the moon showing it’s face. Music and champagne and happiness ruled those few moments. All of a sudden everyone started yelling! We looked and there it was! The full moon! It was surreal. Like living in a dream. The best of dreams. We are so so grateful.”

I couldn’t love Lara’s description more. Their wedding was so unique and intimate. They were joined by family and close friends for a beautiful celebration of their love and as the sun went down we all had a feeling the moonrise would break through the clouds…….and it did!

Lara and Jim are a loving sweet couple who truly deserve each other. They live on Nantucket and when they contacted me to photograph their full moon wedding we were all in! We had mutual friends yet I hadn’t really spent time with them before, the island is great like that, just when you think you know everyone….you meet more wonderful people! Nantucket is so special and we all love it for our own unique reasons. I loved Lara and Jim’s description of the island…. “There’s a solitude and peace that can only be found here. Being near the ocean at all times. The small town feel and the strength of the community. It truly is a magical place.”

Here’s to Lara and Jim and their full moon, they knew it would rise for them and it was a truly beautiful evening indeed!
