Kate and Dan were married on June 10th 2017 overlooking the ocean under sunny skies. This couple’s wedding week was full of festivities including a family and friends Crossfit Workout party, a pool party and an amazing rehearsal dinner / welcome party at The Nantucket Yacht Club. We were honored to photograph all of their special events and I loved learning more about Kate’s family history here on the island and how she introduced Dan to island life. Here’s a little more of their story…

From the bride….”Our wedding ceremony took place right next to the ocean at the Sankaty Beach Club. As soon as we got engaged we knew that we wanted to get married in Nantucket – we are the fifth generation in my family to get married here in the last 100 years – but were unsure exactly where on the island.  We did know that we wanted to be married outdoors next to the ocean, and as soon as we saw the Beach Club we knew that it was perfect for us.”

I love when our grooms write in about the special day too! Dan had a lot of great things to say about their  love for the island… “Our wedding was on Nantucket, which has become my happy place over the past four years. Kate introduced me to the island in our first summer together. It is where I met most of her extended family for the first time (at their annual family reunion tennis tournament), where I’ve been inducted in to crazy workout ideas and rocket launches, and where we built so many happy memories together. Nantucket will be where we bring our own family for years to come.”

Kate and Dan are so thoughtful and so much fun. It was no surprise that when I met them at their Nantucket Engagement Session last spring it instantly seemed like I had known them forever!  I photographed them on Kate’s family’s Red and White Sailboat and her father drove me around on his boat to get some epic photos of them. Leading up to their wedding we knew there would be many memories that would last a lifetime much like that afternoon with the sailboat! The wedding day was full of love, lots of laughter and one of the best dance parties ever. Kate and the ladies of her family did a special dance that you will read about and see later on in the blog! The couple both wrote in about a few memorable moments and I mixed their quotes in with the photos so you can see exactly what they are talking about!

Kate wrote about the advice her mom gave her just moments before she walked down the isle, some wonderful advice every bride should have..

“There were so many amazing moments that it is hard to pick just one! One of the most unexpected moments for me was walking down the aisle with my father. Driving over the ceremony, my mom passed along some advice that she had been given before her wedding (also on Nantucket!) 33 years ago. Part of what she told me was to walk slowly and make eye contact with people as I made my way down the aisle. I did just that and was truly blown away by the love, support, and joy that I felt radiating from our friend and family. It was an amazing and unforgettable way to start the ceremony.”

A few words from the lovely bride Kate…”Another one of my favorite memories from the ceremony is the reading that Dan and I did from the children’s book I Like You by Sandol Stoddard Warburg. It’s a small, sweet, and simple book that beautifully and playfully expresses the love and friendship we feel for each other, and for everyone who was there to support and celebrate us. I loved the experience of sharing the reading with Dan and hearing the reactions of our friends and family. And at the end of the night, we gave our guests copies of the book as favors! One of my favorite lines from the book:

“I like you because

I don’t know why but

Everything that happens

Is nicer with you”

When I got in touch with the couple Dan also said that the reading was a memorable part of the day….”I really enjoyed reading ‘I Like You.’ I had been a little unsure about how it would go since it was a unique element to the ceremony and we didn’t really practice, but I don’t think it could have been better. Our friends and family were right there with us for the personal ceremony and it set the tone for a day full of love, humor and celebration.”

 

“I loved doing the choreographed dance to Olly Murs’ “Dance With Me Tonight.” My mom and aunts had surprised everyone with that same dance at a family reunion a few years ago, and it was so much fun bringing it back with 25+ aunts, cousins, and friends. The cowboy hats were a huge hit on the dance floor!”
