Kara and Doug are getting married in June of 2018! October has been a remarkable month and the night of their Nantucket Engagement Session was especially beautiful!! We had met this wonderful couple earlier this year when we photographed Doug’s Sister’s wedding here on Nantucket and needless to say we were over the moon when we were asked to photograph another family wedding! Kara and Doug are fun loving and  the moment you see them together you can see that they make each other smile!

Kara shared with me leading up to the session that they really liked my portraits because they didn’t look overly posed and that the couples looked comfortable in the photos.  I was so happy to hear this as I love a more natural approach when photographing my couples! I asked her where they love spending time on Nantucket and one of the places she mentioned was Altar Rock. I was thrilled as this is a more unique location for portraits and has stunning views looking over the moors. I believe when couples can relax and be themselves their connection shines bright, photographing Kara and Doug in a location that was special to them was the perfect way to kick off the session!

“Doug and I  are both a bit camera-shy, definitely aren’t fans of ‘public displays of affection,’ and we don’t typically love to pose for pictures. Doug and I went into the photo shoot thinking that it could be a bit awkward, but Katie made us feel so comfortable and we were surprised by how much fun we had at so many different beautiful Nantucket locations! The light was so incredible on the beach and we are so impressed by how everything turned out. We can’t wait for the wedding itself! Thank you Katie!”

The light was indeed incredible as we arrived at Steps Beach and saw dramatic colorful skies and a very unusual sandbar. I Loved photographing Kara and Doug with the bright colors and dreamy reflections on the water!

We can’t wait for Kara and Doug’s Wedding next year and look forward to working with Nantucket Island Events on this very special wedding!
