Jamie and Chris were married on September 9th 2017. The had a wedding like no other as they were married at The Sankaty Beach Club and had the FIRST EVER Wedding Reception at The Chicken Box! When Jamie told me of her plans to have the ultimate authentic Nantucket Wedding Reception we were SO excited to photograph their story! This wedding was incredible on so many levels and I loved hearing everything our bride and groom had to say about their special day!
Here are some of their favorite memories of the day and you will read more throughout the blog!
How did Jamie & Chris decide on Nantucket and their super unique venue choice?
From Jamie….”I always knew that I wanted to get married on Nantucket, my dad’s family has been going to the island since he was a teenager and it’s where we spent summers growing up, we have so many great memories there and you couldn’t ask for a more ideal setting.” Chris agreed…..” I grew up on an island, so I understand the magic that surrounds the island community and lifestyle. After spending time on Nantucket with Jamie and her family I couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else.”
The Sankaty Beach Club overlooks the ocean and is a magical venue by the sea! The Chicken Box is an island institution, a world famous bar that has changed very little over the years….The decision to combine these two very different yet very unique venues was genius! Here is more about how and why they hatched this incredible plan….
From Jamie…..”Figuring out the venues happened pretty quickly- Chris and I had talked about our hypothetical wedding before we were engaged and agreed an early fall wedding would be awesome, which gave us a year to plan – so literally a day or two after we got engaged we met with Sankaty to reserve the Beach Club for the ceremony. I can’t imagine a more beautiful location to exchange vows, cheers champagne and eat oysters. The reception was a different story! My dad gets all of the credit for this one since it was his idea! We knew that we wanted to do something different that was unique to Chris and I as a couple – we both work in the music industry in Nashville and music has really played a huge role in our relationship. Thanks to a little bit of luck and good timing we were able to secure the Chicken Box for the reception (again, this was all my dad and Packy). Transforming the Chicken Box into a wedding reception was an insane but really fun task that we wouldn’t have been able to do without my mom, my sister, and of course Susan Warner – her team is unbelievable!”
I loved hearing more about some of the favorite moments of the day! “Hiding in the kitchen with my dad watching everyone enter and watching Chris stand up there and wait for me, I couldn’t wait to get to him. I also loved the hand blessing part of the ceremony, it talks about how these are the hands that will hold your children and grow old together.” – Jamie
“The Brass-a-holics were incredible – I vividly remember making eye contact with several of our best friends during the “Smells like teen spirit” medley and just knowing we all felt the same…’This is epic!’ We still have people telling us it was the best wedding they’ve ever attended because it was so unique and authentically us.” – Chris
Big thanks to Cary Tozer for photographing this wedding with me!
“Hiding in the kitchen with my dad watching everyone enter and watching Chris stand up there and wait for me, I couldn’t wait to get to him. ” – Jamie
“Our niece and nephew holding hands walking down the aisle as flower girl and ring bearer and seeing Jamie and Terry walking towards me. Terry’s words to me as he handed me Jamie’s hands will stick with me forever.” – Chris
“I also loved the hand blessing part of the ceremony, it talks about how these are the hands that will hold your children and grow old together.” – Jamie
Jamie’s parents have had this bottle of Vueve since the year 2000 (17 years!) and this was the perfect special occasion for it!
“The Brass-a-holics were incredible – I vividly remember making eye contact with several of our best friends during the “Smells like teen spirit” medley and just knowing we all felt the same…”This is epic!”. We still have people telling us it was the best wedding they’ve ever attended because it was so unique and authentically us.” – Chris
From Jamie….”Dancing on stage at the Chicken Box with my family to “When the Saints.” That bar is such an institution on the island, so to be able to do something like that with my family was pretty special and unforgettable. “
